 Learning Manifesto

Manifesto for Lifelong Learning

I believe in the transformative power of learning, driven by the unwavering commitment to guide our students toward becoming the most successful versions of themselves. Dr. Tilisa Thibodeaux explains that her most favorite memory was when she was in 6th grade and was using scrapbook materials to make a parachute for an egg to land safely. Well, alot like her, my favorite memory was one that was hands-on (Learning Philosophy – Learner’s Mindset., 2017). I was in the 5th grade and we took a field trip to a place that allowed us to play as though we were real workers in businesses and could use our paychecks to buy real merchandise. These did not just stick with us because they were fun but also because we really learned through these experiences. I would not know how to fill out a check or deposit slip if it weren't for this field trip as it has never been brought up again in all my years of education. These are the kinds of experiences we should be aiming to provide for our students. One that allows our students to experience real-life skills and problem-solving that will make them more successful in the future.

1. Purposeful Learning:

  • I recognize learning as the cornerstone of personal and professional growth.

  • My mission is to cultivate an environment where continuous learning propels our students toward excellence.

2. Project-Based Authenticity:

  • I champion project-based learning as the optimal approach to creating authentic educational experiences.

  • Through hands-on projects, I know I empower students to apply knowledge in real-world contexts, fostering a deep and lasting understanding.

3. Lifelong Journey:

  • I embrace learning as a lifelong journey, acknowledging that the pursuit of knowledge is endless.

  • My commitment extends beyond the acquisition of facts; I strive to instill a passion for discovery that outlasts the boundaries of time.

4. Embracing Challenges:

  • I believe challenges are opportunities for growth.

  • In the face of obstacles, educators should encourage resilience, perseverance, and a strategic approach to transform setbacks into stepping stones.

5. Failure as a Catalyst:

  • Failure is not the end; it is a natural part of the learning process.

  • I believe that true understanding emerges from the lessons learned in moments of challenge and failure.

6. Collaborative Excellence:

  • Collaboration is the heartbeat of our learning community.

  • Together, we amplify our potential, drawing on diverse perspectives to create an enriching environment that fosters collective brainpower.

7. Adaptability in a Changing World:

  • In a world of perpetual change, adaptability is key.

  • We need to equip our students with the skills and mindset to navigate the evolving landscape, ensuring they remain at the forefront of progress.

8. Igniting Passion:

  • Passion for knowledge is the catalyst for a lifelong love of learning.

  • I strive to ignite this flame within each student, fueling their curiosity and commitment to continuous self-improvement.

9. Shortcomings of Today’s Education System

  • Students are expected to learn through rote memorization.

  • Students are not allowed to have a voice in an authentic learning environment.

‘Any fool can know. The point is to understand.’ –Albert Einstein

‘You don’t learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over.’ –Richard Branson

‘Knowing is not enough; We must apply. Willing is not enough; We must do.’ –Bruce Lee

In this manifesto, I declare my dedication to the holistic development of individuals who not only absorb knowledge but also contribute meaningfully to the ever-evolving world.
